The After-Hours On-Call Technician will undertake after-hours and on-call facility checks at the University of Otago’s Portobello Marine Laboratory and New Zealand Marine Studies Centre, Otago Peninsula site at 185 Hatchery Road, Portobello, Dunedin.
The position requires the successful candidate to check the seawater system and operations, ensure the site is secure, and to respond to on-call facilities’ breakdowns.
The position offers a stimulating environment that would suit someone experienced or interested in any aspect of Marine Science and/or the servicing or maintenance of marine laboratory equipment and infrastructure.
Because the laboratory is not on a direct public transport route having reliable private transport will be necessary as the successful candidate must remain within forty minutes of the Portobello Marine Laboratory site) when rostered to work.

- Experience in the area of aquaculture or a related field is an advantage.
- In addition, mechanical knowledge and practical skills are important.
- Attention to detail, and able to complete daily checklists and records.
- Reliability is essential.

This is a part-time (9.5 hours per week), permanent position, located in Portobello Dunedin.
The remuneration for this position includes a daily on-call rate, and cellphone provided. A two bedroom, on site house owned by the University is available to rent.
