The IP department of Milestone is a relatively new function in Milestone consisting of a European Patent Attorney reporting to the VP Research, and to our owner Canon Inc., working with the IP function of Canon Europe. Canon Inc. has consistently been one of the top 10 filers of patent applications, and it is therefore an important part of the Milestone strategy to strengthen our IP portfolio.
Our main responsibility is to identify potential patentable solutions from around the organization and to secure the freedom-to-operate for future products and solutions from Milestone. The candidate should participate in ensuring that Milestone becomes independent in terms of handling IP matters.
This role in the IP team is replacing our current student assistant, who will transfer to a different role within Milestone over the summer 2023, and will support the ongoing work in the team towards harvesting inventions, filing, and prosecuting patent applications, and securing the freedom-to-Operate for Milestone.

We are looking for a candidate that has an interest and basic knowledge of Intellectual Property (IP) and is eager to learn more about how IP is used in the real world. The candidate should be structured in their work, fluent in English and preferably one or more other languages, and able to understand and comply with complicated procedural matters.
Knowledge about IP laws and requirements is an advantage, but not a requirement.

- Structuring relevant documents and information throughout the application process;
- Handle the Milestone online IP training program;
- Organizing IP Board meetings

- Assisting our Patent Attorney with special projects and other assignments.
